How do we hear the voice of Jesus?

Check out the full article by John Piper here in which he presents two ways that we hear the voice of Jesus.

For now, I’m loving this:

"When the Gospel writers say, “Jesus said,” it is Jesus saying, “I said.” When they write “Jesus did,” it is Jesus saying, “I did.” When they write about Jesus, Jesus is speaking about Jesus. When they quote Jesus, Jesus is quoting Jesus. In the Bible we hear the voice of Jesus talking about Jesus."

"The way he means for us to live is to be so familiar with his voice from a thousand pages of precious Scripture that we sense his will where he is silent.”

This is challenging for me because while Ryan and I long to hear from God in this season and desperately want to know his will for us, I haven’t been viewing Scripture as the way to hear his voice.

I keep praying that God would grant us wisdom and give us understanding for the next steps we should take for our family.

What I forget is that God has spoken. And Jesus speaks. Every single day through the pages of His Word.

His Word is living and active. It’s relevant and timeless and written for me.

If we want to hear the voice of Jesus friends, lets open up Scripture...the good old fashioned way or on your phone or on your ebook reader or online. There's no right way, there's no wrong way.

Read. Meditate. Ponder. Let us become so familiar with the words and life of Jesus that we are like sheep who hear His voice and follow Him.

I'd love to know where you're at on your journey to hearing Jesus' voice. Please share!

Yes reading, memomorizing and meditating on scripture is crucial to hearing Jesus voice. There is one other thing you must do to know God's will for you. Many people want God to tell them his will so that they can choose to do it or not, or to select from an array of options. God wants us first to surrender fully to him FIRST, then he will lead you step by step into his will, often with only enough light for that next step. Sometimes with great vision but no way that you on your own could possibly do what he has called you to do. He does not call the qualified, he qualifies the called. God will use the scripture that you have memorized and meditated on to lead you. His Holy Spirit will speak to your soul. Sometimes a friend will speak a prophetic word. Pray without ceasing. I am praying for you! Grace.

1. Ask Him, - many don't,
2. Hear - ask Jesus to open your ears to his voice, ask the Holy spirit to fill you, ask Jesus for His anointing for your life, command all curses to leave you, ask Jesus to put you in the secret place of Psalm 9
3. Test - 1st john 4:1-4, we are to test every spirit, take every thought captive, do all things by prayer and supplication, speak to the spirit that you hear, follow the outline of 1st john 4:1-4
4. Get Confirmation - get others to ask, hear, and test, the exact same as you. The more that hear the same thing, the better the chance it was God talking
5. take every sence, thought, feeling, dream, to Jesus, and ask, hear, test what you hear, and get others to pray with you.
6. Scripture can't help you find God's will for you, when you loose your job, need a new car, etc.... It's God's bible, we're supposed to ask Him where to read in His Bible, then ask him what he means about it.
