God's promises to those who wait

God promises much to those who wait on Him:

  • Those who wait on God will be strengthened.
  • Blessed are all who wait for Him.
  • The Lord is good to those who wait for Him.
  • God hears us when we wait on Him.
  • We will not be put to shame when we wait on Him.
  • He acts on our behalf when we wait for Him.

Why then, is waiting so hard? One can argue that waiting is so hard because it takes control out of our hands.

Or because it requires patience and trust.

Or that waiting is hard because we don't believe God's promises and claim them for our life.
All of those things may be true.

But I think waiting is hard because it hurts.

Simply stated, waiting can be gut-wrenchingly painful when our hope is deferred. Waiting and hope go hand in hand and when our hope is crushed, our hearts are devastated.

We hope for good news from the doctor or a good review at work. We hope for a text or email from a loved one. We hope for something that will give us more hope.

God's promises are about us waiting on Him and putting our hope in Him.

David writes in the Psalms that his soul waits in silence for God. And friends, when we wait for God and place our hope in God, it makes all the difference in how we will be able to handle our waiting. God is our rock. He is our salvation.

It is because of who He is that we should wait on Him.

And in return He promises:

Since ancient times no one had heard,
no ear has perceived,
no eye has seen any God besides you,
who acts on behalf of those who wait for him.
